It's WAY to simple.

It's WAY to simple. It just gives you the idea of the terms that you will see when you read an actual book about Magento2. I download it in my kindle and was impressed to see the scroll showing already 30% after reading 3 pages. I read it in 20 minutes and was like "where is the rest of it??"

This book is a great way to get started in understanding the changes in terminology between Magento 1.x and 2.x. As the first of the series, it is a very quick read. Looking forward to more installments from Alan, who is also the chief architect of Magento 2.0.

Encyclopaedia of lessons on how to be successful! A pricey book but worth buying

Poor Charlie's Almanac has been on my reading list for the last couple of years. It took me a six-month sabbatical (and then some) to get through it. This is a testament to the information, lessons, references and stories from Charlie Munger. Fundamentally, this book is an encyclopedia of information on what it takes to be successful and to achieve greatness in what it is you want to do in life; all from a very successful and extremely well read (and connected) 90-ish year old billionaire!

Let's be clear, this is not a book that you can quickly skim through, but rather a book you spend quality time with every day; for a good couple of months. This way you're giving yourself the best change of retaining all of Charlie's tidbits of wisdom. One of the great things about this book is the plethora of quotes from successful entrepreneurs, historians, philosophers alike whose ideas and writings have survived the test of time.

Suffice to say, this is one of those books I'm going to re-read, reference and quote for the rest of my life. Well worth a purchase!

1. Charlie knows no wise people who didn't read all the time. It is more than just reading though, one has to grab ideas and do sensible things. Most people do not identify ideas, and if they do, they do not know what to do with them
2. Diversification in investing is something that Charlie doesn't believe in. His recommendation is to choose three good company stocks and invest accordingly. Interesting approach given most financial advisors typically recommend the opposite
3. Self-pity is always counter-productive, It's the wrong way to think. And when you avoid it you get a great advantage over everybody else or almost everybody else, because self-pity is a standard response. And you can train yourself out of it

Lots of Worldly Wisdom In Here

I read this book as part of my plan to read the required readings from the syllabus' posted on line from the MBA courses at Columbia University. Many of the professors also give suggested supplemental readings. Somewhere in there this was recommended. Don't expect advice on getting rich quick. That isn't what this book is about. It isn't about security analysis. No long chapters of number crunching. It is about life and how to see the world the way it really works. There is so much useful "Worldly Wisdom" in this book it is well worth the price I paid. It also has a list of additional readings recommended by either Munger or Kaufman on a broad variety of topics. In every chapter, the alert reader is also exposed to many other writers, thinkers, successful people an ideas that beg further investigation. It is almost impossible to read this book without expanding your future reading list substantially.

The best decision you'll ever make.

First of all, this is my first and last book review. I don't write these ever, and I will never write one again. However, seeing this gem had only 6 reviews and I felt this needed to be said.

You can't afford to not read this. Think of it as a gift to humanity from a higher more intelligent species - Its something you don't want to go through life having missed.

I spend about 16 hours a day researching financial markets/value investing.

I have read over 50 books on related subjects - No book has influenced my thought process more that this one. It is simply amazing.

You will not get the value from this book when you close the last page, but when you see the world relate in the ways Munger lays out for you. This is one of the greatest minds and business and he tells you his secrets. The last chapter on the psychology of human misjudgment will live on past Munger's days. It is his greatest work and is invaluable information. The way your brain fires and works will literally physically change over time from the things this book teaches you. Its a mind trainer - it teaches you how to look at problems. It is worth its weight in platinum.

I don't care who you are. You need to buy this and pound his ideas in your head. You won't even think its that great as you read it and might even wonder why it is praised so much. Over time, you'll see things how Munger does and start to think like Munger does. Whatever field you are in, this book will help you to look and analyze problems and the world as a whole in a different more intelligent manner. Again, I cannot praise or recommend this book enough. When your done with it and look back years later, this odd review I just wrote will make crystal clear sense to you. Your welcome.

About the Author
Gerald Graff, a professor of English and education at the University of Illinois at Chicago and 2008 president of the Modern Language Association of America, has had a major impact on teachers through such books as Professing Literature: An Institutional History, Beyond the Culture Wars: How Teaching the Conflicts Can Revitalize American Education, and Clueless in Academe: How Schooling Obscures the Life of the Mind.

Cathy Birkenstein is a lecturer in English at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has published essays on writing in College English, and, with Gerald Graff in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Academe, and College Composition and Communication.

Russel Durst, who edited the readings in "They Say / I Say" with Readings, is head of the English Department at the University of Cincinnati, where he teaches courses in composition, writing pedagogy and research, English linguistics, and the Hebrew bible as literature. A past president of the National Conference on Research in Language and Literacy, he is the author of several books, including Collision Course: Conflict, Negotiation, and Learning in College Composition.

My Ivy League mentor impressed by improvements I made using tips from this book

I am in a Ph.D. program at Cornell University, but having already completed an undergrad and a Master's degree, I thought my writing was pretty good. However, after using the tips from this book, my Ivy League professor told me my work had substantially improved. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their writing. I also recommend "Making Sense in the Life Sciences: A Student's Guide to Writing and Research" for anyone looking to help organize lots of information into a logical flow/argument.

A Major Resource for Incorporating Others' Ideas into a College-Level Argument

This book could be used for advanced HS students in its entirety. With scaffolding, the book is a fruitful resource for explaining and supporting the writing of the college level argument. The templates, though they may seem simplistic or mechanical, provide helpful models and scaffolds for the many "moves" in the written argument. The book doesn't cover rhetorical devices, but I have found that teaching each separately helps students.

The explicit professional examples and the templates address one of the greatest difficulties in the writing of so many students, incorporating quotations smoothly, what "They Say," and helping students maintain their voice in what "I say."

I am writing my dissertation for my doctorate and this book is GREAT because it helps with writers block. It gives you phrases to help you get your thoughts going. It is extremely well organized and has been mentioned in several You Tube instructional videos I have watched.
